Dragging hind legs, getting worse

Question
I usually let my sweet "george" out in the morning and he hops around me as I water, weed, etc. He is only 10 months old so he's pretty spunky. This morning though I noticed that he was walking a little funny on one side. Now....12 hrs later he is noticably  worse. He can't move around very well and do the simplest movements. The local vet is not available on Sundays so I'm desperate. Is it a bacterial infection? I do have another rabbit that is not in the same cage as him that has suffered from Snuffles. Did he transfer something to him?   HELP!  Lisa

Answer
Dear Lisa,

This is not "snuffles."  It sounds more like hind limb paresis, which can have several different causes and treatments, depending on the cause.  Please read:

www.bio.miami.edu/hare/paresis.html

If you are in the midwest where there are ticks, also ask the vet about the possibility of Lyme disease, which is difficult to diagnose, but treatable with specific antibiotics.

You can find a good rabbit vet here:

I hope this helps.
