trimming rabbit teeth

Question
Hi,
Our 2 year rabbit has had misalligned teeth from birth and about a year ago he had one upper & one lower incisor teeth removed and some molars which helped for a while. However lately he's been requiring more frequent trips to the vet to have the remaining incisors trimmed. he doesn't seemed phased by this but it is getting quite expensive. is this something that can be done at home? the vet uses clippers however i heard this can lead to fractures. would it be better to use a dremel with a diamond cutter?

Answer
Dear Andrew,

We use a Dremel with a diamond wheel, but you must be extremely careful because it's very easy to accidentally cut the bunny's fleshy lips or tongue.  It takes a LOT of practice and skill, and I would not recommend it if you are not experienced.  :(

If this is going to be a long-term problem, then you might want to have the remaining problematic teeth removed.  Bunny will be able to eat normally, as long as you cut things into bite-sized pieces or strips.

I hope this helps.
