Question
My rabbit is really scared of people. We got him from a rehoming centre and he HATES being picked up... so i dont do it. If you do pick him up he wees himself through fright and unless held very tightly kicks and scratches to get down. My vets claim he is only about 7 months old. How do i get him to like us??

Also, he is an outside rabbit who has free rain of the garden a couple of supervised times every day. He always jumps back into his hutch when he is done and we just have to close the door behind him. He seems fairly content, but i have read that you shouldn't keep a single rabbit. Is this true?? If i get another one, will that make him even more distant from us??

Thanks for your help.

Kelly.

Answer
hello kelly

as your bunny is still at a young age it will be more easier for him to get used to you. Rabbits can be very timid/frightened and sometimes take a while for them to get used to their owners. Your bunny really does want cuddle even though he dont show it. I think in time he will get used to you, it will take alot of time and patients. the next time he is in his cage sit next to him and feed him treats through the wire, then if he is still calm open the door and just sit their stroking him. Dont try picking him up as it will make him frightend and will regress.Keep doing this and he will soon get used to you and will then want cuddles again.

I think that he would love a buddy, rabbits dont like being on their own and as he wont let you cuddle him right now he may feel even more lonely. try getting a bunny around the same size and age and introduce them slowly.

hope this helps

good luck
