Question
hi i have a 4 year old female dutch rabbit and what i thought was a 5 month old female lop eared. i have been given a male lop and thought i would see if they would get on for possible breeding. when i put him in with the girls the young lop eared went straight for him. does this mean that she is actually a he and was protecting his mate. another reason y i think the young girl is a boy is because i have found white spray marks on the hutch and run? i have put all my rabbits in seperate hutchs as the dutch rabbit started pulling her fur out and her titties are starting to show alot more than normal she also makes a grunting noise if i hold her. it has been 2 days since she pulled her hair out is she preg or is it a false one? how can i tell.

Answer
Both males and females will mount other rabbits as a sign of dominance. Both males and females spray, as well, though males are more likely to do so.

The only way to be sure a rabbit is pregnant rather than having a false pregnancy is to have a vet or an experienced breeder palpate (feel for babies). If you cannot get her palpated, the best thing to do would be to assume she is pregnant and prepare for babies.
