Bunny sneezing after spay

Question
We had our 5 month old holland lop spayed on Wednesday.  She didn't eat the first 24 hours, so we gave her critical care, along with baytril, cisapride and metacam the vet sent her home with.  Her eating is gradually getting back to normal, and her behavior and disposition are normal.  Yesterday, my husband thought she sneezed a few times.  Today, he and my daughter have heard it again several times, but i havent heard any sneezes in the more than one hour ive been in the room with her.  Nose is dry and normal.  No discharge.  She's eating greens this very minute.  Should we be concerned about the sneezing?

Thanks!

Answer
Dear Nancy,

I would not worry unless this becomes more chronic.  Surgery is stressful, and stress can suppress the immune system, allowing resident pathogens to proliferate.  But as she recovers, so will her immune system, and she may be able to control this herself.

Please see:

http://www.bio.miami.edu/hare/sickbun.html

for instructions to tell if she's sick enough for the vet, as well as emergency measures.  But for now I'd just keep an eye on her and be ready to take her to the vet if she gets any worse.

Hope this helps.

Dana
