Question
My mixed female bunny (about 9months old) recently has been pooping on my floor when I let her out of her cage, prior to this she would only use her litter box.  She also has been tipping over her litter box, i think for attention.  Just today though I saw her rubbing her neck on things around the room, I tried to look at her neck and she didn't want me to look at it.  I know its getting hotter here, being as summer is approaching, and she has lots of hair, being she is a lionhead mix.  Is there something I should be concerned with?

Answer
Dear Ashlee,

Sorry for the delay in answering.  My internet connection went down for two days, and I was only now able to reconnect.

The signs you're seeing:  marking territory with pellets, acting frisky (e.g., tossing her litterbox), marking things with the scent gland on her chin are all signs that she's reached puberty and is feeling her oats.  This means that it's time for her to be spayed for her to maintain good litterbox habits, and to remove her high risk of uterine and mammary cancer.  Please read:

You can find a good, experienced rabbit vet for this here:

Hope this helps!  Once your girl is spayed, you can contact your local rabbit rescuer and let her choose a neutered buddy from among those at the fosterer's home!  :)

Hope this helps.

Take care,
Dana
