Bunny suddenly sick

Question
Our bunny started acting peculiar today.  He was still accepting treats but just not himself.  Later tonight my daughter found him shaking and he was breathing heavily.  He did not want his treats.  I took his temperature and at first it was normal but then later went up to 104.9.  I called my vet, she told me to give him a quarter of an aspirin and bring him in in the morning.  It seemed to do the trick.  Around 2 a.m. I heard him breathing heavily so I took him out of his cage and held him, keeping an ice pack on his belly so his temperature would stay down.  He seemed comfortable but had what I think was a seizure.  He seemed okay after it again but about 20 minutes later had another one and died in my arms.  I cleaned the bathroom, where he was living the morning before with watered down bleach because he had peed on the floor (which he never did). I wiped it right up and put a rag over the spot so he would not smell the bleach.  Could he have been poisoned from the bleach?  I don't know if he would run a fever if he was poisoned, all I know is he was a unique boy and he will be very missed.

Answer
Hi Tracy. I am very saddened to hear about your bunny. There are so many things that can go wrong with rabbits. It sounds like your bunny had an infection of some sort but it is so hard to  know for sure. The bleach didn't have anything to do with it, I am sure. I wash my cages down often with 10% bleach water and have never had a problem. The fact he peed on the floor tells me that he had issues going on before you used the bleach. I hope you and your family can soon find peace with this. It is never easy to loose our friends, even the little ones. Maybe someday you can find another unique little one to fill the void.  You will be in my thoughts.  Pat
