Question
Hi.  I'm currently looking into rescuing a bunny but I want to make sure that my dogs won't be too stressful for the bunny.  I've heard that bunnies can be "scared to death" (i.e. have a heart attack, break their own spines if they're scared and thrash around too much).  The bunny will be in an area of the house away from the dogs and will not have any interaction with the dogs but I want to make sure the dogs' barking will not be too scary for the bunny.  What do you think?

Answer
If the bunny has been at an animal shelter, he or she will have been around dogs barking and shouldn't be bothered by it.  Or, if you get a rabbit from a rescue group, you can ask if the bunny has been exposed to dogs.  Most rabbits learn to ignore dogs, unless they are right in front of them and looking like they are going to eat them.

Usually the rabbits that we hear of who die like this are kept outside in hutches or pens and have been attacked by dogs or raccoons.

So if the rabbit is going to be inside, chances are it isn't going to be an issue.
