Question
Hello, I have a 2 1/2 year old holland lop female and the past day or two
whenever I walk around her cage she follows me (in the cage), opens her
mouth a little and makes this weird buzzing noise. Other than that she is
eating/drinking/eliminating/breathing normally and she seems normal. Have
you ever seen this?? It sounds very much like the sound my males make when
they get excited but I've never heard a female do it?

Answer
Dear Molly,

Yes, female rabbits will "sing" with the same little buzzing voice use by males, and it's not always sexual.  I have a ten year old, spayed female who sings a little buzzy song whenever she's happy and excited about something, such as getting a treat!

Your bunny is saying she's happy to see you, and wants attention.

If she's not spayed, this could  be partly sexual.  And if she's not spayed, you should have her examined by a good rabbit vet:

before scheduling a spay, as unbred, unspayed female rabbits have a very high risk of uterine cancer:

I hope this helps.
