Is my mother feeding her kits...

Question
Hi, my lop rabbit has given birth to some kits 2 days ago, i can't tell how many is there or if they have plumped up bellies as she has covered them with fur and hay. i definitely no they are there because i can see the pinkness through the hay and sometimes they squeak. Some have people said i should just leave them totally and others said i should check after day one to see if they look okay and for any dead ones. What am i meant to do? Is it normal for them to squeak or is it because they're hungry? Should i check if they look like they are being fed or will the mother reject them?

Answer
hello amy

congrats on the litter.

I would definatly check the litter to make sure that they are all ok but dont just put your hands straight in the nest make sure you rub your hands in your rabbits bedding(not the nest)loads so that you smell of your rabbit, i wouldnt wear any perfum or sprays either. otherwise your rabbit may hurt or even kill her litter

The squeaking is normal with baby rabbits and thats a very good sign that they are ok. You can start handling the babies when they are about one week old and there eyes start to open.

your rabbit will feed the babies usually twice a day in the morning and at night. sometimes during the day if she knoes the babies are really hungry.

Let me know if there is any problems with your litter such as a runt of the litter as i have had loads of experience with this.

make sure your bunny has loads of hay food and water as she is going to need to keep her strenth up.

Hope they are all healthy and well, good luck.

hope this helps
