eating very little few droppings not drinking

Question
Dear Dana,
I have been searching the internet for days and can't find an answer. I would be very grateful for your advice. Ted stopped eating last week and I took him to the vet who said there was no obstruction but he has small spurs on his molars. I tried to tempt him with lots of different foods and got him to eat some hay and carrot tops. I give the greens wet to get water in him but he does not seem to drink. I offered diluted pineapple juice but he won't drink it. He does not look ill although less lively than normal. He sleeps a lot. Last week his droppings were small but now they are normal size but darker than normal.
He eats carrot tops and a little greens and a tiny bit 'complementary feed'. He does not eat the pellet food.
Please help!!! Should I have his teeth filed? I have been reluctant to get him treatment because I thought the stress of that might make him worse.
Many thanks!
Diane

Answer
Dear Diane,

Short answer to this one:  DEFINITELY get his molars filed.  It will make all the difference in the world.  Many rabbits are extremely sensitive to molar spur pain, and the symptoms you describe could progress into full-blown ileus:

if the molar spurs are not filed smooth for your sensitive boy.

It sounds as if you have a good vet who knows about rabbits if s/he found spurs.  Please go ahead and have this done as soon as possible.  Your bunny will thank you!  The short-term stress will relieve his chronic pain, and he should be back to normal in no time.

I hope this helps. Please write back if you have any other questions.
