my rabbit now has a marble swirled red colored left eye

I just took my rabbits out to roam in the house and found that my female has a left eye that looks like a marble that is red swirled in color.  I plan to call the vet tomorrow am--it is Sunday, though I thought I would also e-mail you.  I just noticed it, so I am thinking that she somehow scratched her eye, pretty  badly, and I am concerned that she may now be blind and in pain.  Both of my rabbits had very long nails due to my negligence, I am sad to say.  I will monitor her the rest of today and this evening.  I do not have a separate hutch or cage for her, though I could probably keep her in the house tonight if need be.  Thank you for your time.

You've done the right thing by getting a vet appointment ASAP.  This could be due to a traumatic injury, but it definitely needs veterinary attention, no matter what the cause.

It is possible this will require the expertise of a veterinary ophthalmologist, so please don't be shy about asking your vet about this, if you think s/he isn't able to handle the problem adequately.  You can find a good rabbit vet here:
