Question
Hello. My boyfriend and I are expecting to get a pet rabbit on january 17 when he turns 8 weeks. He will be staying in our bedroom as we live with a roomate. I have been noticing bed bug bites so I am going to have some pesticide sprayed in my room. Do you think it will be safe to bring the rabbit in our home by Jan 17 since the spray would have ventalated for a few weeks or should I place him somewhere else temporarily? Thank you

Answer
Dear Anh,

Ask the pest exterminator to use an environmentally safe/pet safe pesticide.  Ask about active ingredients, since what's safe for a dog or cat (e.g., fipronil) may be deadly to a rabbit.

The vapor portion of the pesticide should be gone by January.  But be sure to wipe down any baseboards or areas where pesticide was sprayed directly, since a bunny could lick or chew these and get nasty stuff inside.

Hope this helps, and that you'll soon be bed bug free *and* ready for a safe bunny haven.  For all the best information on how to care for your new pal, please be sure to get it from:

Good luck!
