Question
Hello ive got a 18 week old full lop and have noticed since i had her she walked funny her feet bent in.
When she went to the vets they said nothing was wrong but now she cant walk she is moving her legs but its like shes camando crawling!
She's not been dropped or injered and she is very well looked after.
The vet says theres nothing to do and to put her to sleep but im not happy with that decicion and she seems to be happy eating normal still loving and doesnt seem to be in pain!any ideas as what can be wrong with her?

Answer
Dear Stacey,

In cases of splayleg, the legs usually splay *outwards*, but the method we've used to correct this problem might still work for your bunny.  I agree that euthanasia is an excessive solution to what might be a quite treatable problem.  Please see:

www.bio.miami.edu/hare/splayleg.html

If she's this young, it's quite possible that splinting her legs (and keeping her on a firm surface with good traction!) will solve this problem in a few weeks.  (They do the same thing for humans with similar developmental problems.)

And I would strongly urge you to consider finding a different vet who not only knows more about rabbits, but also takes them more seriously as patients.  You can find one here:

www.rabbit.org/vets

I hope this helps you get your bunny back on her feet and on her way to permanent recovery!
