Question
my rabbit was prescribed enofloxacin susp. @ 20ml/ml. we are watch for loose stool and stop immediately if it occurs. she has an resp. infection. to continue for 14 days. it measured out to 1/2cc twice a day. is this a safe dose? she is 6 1/4 lbs. and she a satin.

Answer
Hi Ginger. I always have trouble calculating the dosage of medications, however it sounds like the dosage that has been prescribed is within the normal range. I suggest that you feed your rabbits lots of hay along with the meds to keep the intestines in good shape as any antibiotic is hard on a rabbits intestinal tract. If your rabbit shows any symptoms of this problem at the end of her meds be sure to get back in touch with the vet and have the antibiotic continued for a bit longer. Respiratory disease is very serious in rabbits and sometimes needs long term meds, sometime lifelong. So it is important to make sure you knock this thing out the first time round.  Pat
