Worrying... (accidental pregnancy?)

Question
Hello,
I bought two female rabbits some weeks ago. It turned out that one of them is a male. So, there is my question : do you think possible for my doe rabbit to be pregnant, knowing that the male is barely three months old and the female is fifteen weeks old - I thought males weren't fertile so young? Because I saw him mounting her (that's when I thought something was dodgy with this female ^^')the night his hormones began to "act up". I read that for the mating to be complete, the male had to fall over with a cry and I removed him before he did that. I kept them separated since then. Can he still have inseminated her? I thought that it wasn't possible but then I read that the mating in itself lasts only a few seconds so it works almost every time...
I'm very worried because my doe rabbit is too young to breed safely. I had the male neutered so something like that won't happen again.

Thanking you in advance for your answer,
Maya

Answer
Hi Maya. I don't think you have to worry too much. I suppose it is possible for your doe to be bred but I really doubt it. Most bucks become able to breed before they become firtile, so even if he did breed with her I doubt that he would be firtile yet. Even so, keep a watch on your little girl. It would take about 30 days for her to carry the babies so you can caculate when she would be due if she were bred. Just watch for any signs of pregnancy about three weeks from the date you saw him mount the doe, and you would be surprised just how well some of these young mothers do. Yes, she is young, but I have seen does this young produce a litter and do a fine job of raising them. I just wouldn't reccomend it.  pat
