Male Rabits

Question
My female rabbit has had babies after an illegal meeting with my male rabbit. He is now due to be neutered and we are planning on keeping 4 babies (now 8 weeks old) but one of them is a boy. After Graham has been 'done' would we be able to put him and the boy we wish to keep in together? They are house rabbits and have adjoining cages separated by a wire divide so have been able to see each other and have contact through the wire, for the last 4 weeks.
Many thanks in anticipation of your response.

Answer
Dear Penny,

Housing the father-son pair together once the father is neutered might be okay, but you should try it out slowly. For example, putting them together in the cage for a few minutes to an hour or so, under close supervision. If they seem to be getting along, they may be all right together. Even then, be prepared to separate them if necessary, as sometimes rabbits will chew on each other, spray each other with urine (very messy), or fight. Try to provide amusments such as timothy or grass hay or straw to chew and carry around, and bunny-safe toys such as the cardboard tube from a roll of toilet paper, and some kinds of baby toys, though if they start chewing them up, take the toys out of the cage. Some rabbits like balls, too. One of my old rabbits had a baseball, and some of my sister's rabbits have plasic balls that they like to push around with their noses. It is so cute!
I hope your rabbits will get along together--it can be so fun to watch two rabbits play together! Of course it is still fun to see one rabbit playing, or two rabbits "visiting" through the sides of their cages!

God Bless
