Question
Dear Dana Krempels,

Hello, I have a rabbit it is an English Angora/Holland dwarf Lop! She is very uniqui when I say that I mean she barks like a mini dog like the toy dogs I know its funny, she one time meowed I looked at her and I was looking up at the heavens and I said God did you mutated her or something lol. One time she though she was a chipmunk lol. She is a crazy little rabbit: Any how I have a few questions to ask you as a first time owner I had my rabbit for 3 1/2 years already and she is a sweetheart. I was training her to be potty trained and she doesnt go to the box she completely ignores it and poops every where she pleases. And she pees, not only that how do I get rabbit pee out of the cage do you have any at home recipes that I can try. When I went to pet goods I told the guy that she has been having bathroom problems her pee smells! I mean it reaks he said not to give her Romain lettuce but isnt that in her diet y rabbit's name is Gizma. She is still a baby. I had her since she was 8 weeks old. she is so cute. I look at her and I see that she looks like a stuffed animal lol. And do you know if there are any rabbit groomers by me I live in Nj but Northern 15 MINS FROM nyc Do you know any in that area? And speaking of rabbit behavior she growls and slams her feet and when she is underneath my bed which she is not aloud to be I try to get her out by giving her a carrot or celery she eats it but then she hisses at me like a cat I am like ok I will come back later. And why does the rabbit go around the owner in circles, Also I try to comb her belly but she gets scared and scratches me and runs away I let her rome freely in the house and yes I rabbit proof every thing! Can a Vet groom the rabbit?

Answer
Dear AngelicalWishes,

It sounds as if it's high time for your bunny to be spayed.  That's the only way to restore her litterbox habits, if it's not too late.  It will also remove her very high risk of uterine cancer:

There are lots of rabbit-savvy vets in your area, and you can link to them via the list here:

Most vets will be able to groom your bunny, so ask about that when you go for the pre-spay exam.

Once she's spayed, her hissing and aggression should subside, and she will be healthier and less stinky.  Romaine lettuce doesn't cause the smell:  it's hormones.

You can find all the best rabbit information at www.rabbit.org

I hope this helps.
