washing a bunny

Question
I was putting food into my rabbit's bowl. She got excited because of the sound of the food, hitting the bowl. Because of getting excited, she decided to run, happily, knowing she was getting food. When she was running, she slipt and fell, sliding, and injuring her hip or leg. Now, my poor Pepper (my bunny) can't walk. She drags her back feet/legs, but she is not in pain. Since she can't walk, she can't reach her litter box, and so she lays in her mess. How can I clean, and help my bunny, so that she can hop and run again, and be clean?

Answer
Since she is more than just a little dirty, from your description, she will need a real bath. Get a tub (or fill a sink) a few inches high with slightly warm water. It should not be hot. It should be comfortably warm to your touch. Use a shampoo that is labelled as being safe for kittens or for rodents and gently rub away the mess that is stuck to her.

I would also suggest taking her into a vet to see what was damaged. If it is a bone bruise or a fracture in anything other than the spine, the vet may be able to get her to be able to hop again. If it is spinal damage, it may be permanent, but some things can still be done to help improve her quality of life.
