Question
i have a rabbit who broke her foot.  I am wondering what i can do to fix her foot?  any suggestions on what to do for her?

Answer
Hi Dora

I have to tell you honestly here that the best thing you can do for the bunny is to take it to the vet.  They can give you some medicine to help with the pain and some vets will splint the foot and others won't.

The problem with splinting is that rabbits will chew through the splint and they don't like wearing the funnel hats like dogs.  They can usually wiggle their way right out of them.  That is why many vets will just tell you to let it heal on its own.

Please remember that rabbits are designed to mask pain so that predators are less likely to prey on them.  If you know for sure your rabbit's foot is broken and you notice that the rabbit is showing signs of discomfort, then you know that bunny is in very serious pain.

It is up to you but even though I know my vet won't splint broken feet or even legs, I would still take my rabbit there for pain management.

There is really nothing you can do at home for it other than keep an eye on it.  Don't put it outside because it will have absolutely no way of escaping from predators.  Even if you think your yard is safe, a hawk from miles and miles away can spot an injured bunny.

I hope your bunny feels better soon :(
