Question
Hi,
I have 1 desexed male and one female rabbit currently living together. Originally i had two boys but of course they fought so i gave the other one to my sister. The other rabbit has now  been left lonely after his friend suddenly died.He is also desexed. Can i put the two desexed boys in with my one female rabbit?? Thanks
Charlotte

Answer
Hello Charlotte

Whether they are desexed or not they need to be properly bonded in a neutral territory.  It can be a long process.  Sometimes after the loss of a mate a rabbit will never accept another.  You can work on bonding them but it may be difficult as the other 2 already have a strong bond.  In situations like these I would recommend contacting your local HRS and seeing if you can't find a new mate for your boy.  He is going to be better off with a desexed female.  It is very hard to bond males to males even if they are fixed.

Here is the site for the HRS.  They will arrange dates for your bunny and he can pick his mate and this usually produces better results.  The HRS folks are very good at bonding rabbits.

If you can't find anything there then I suggest you contact Lee Meyer or Ms. Dana Krempels.  Both are experts here and work very closely with the HRS.  I can give you information on bonding but I would not recommend trying this on your own without support from someone in your area.

Sincerely,

Pam
