Peeing issue

Question
I have a geriatric female bunny around 11 yrs old that I rescued. She drinks a voracious amount of water (actually slurps it) and then pees constantly, everywhere. She is untrained and is a free roam bunny in her own room. I have a three yr. old male in there with her. Any way to stop the chronic peeing at her age or know why she takes in so much water?

Answer
Hi,

Increased water intake can indicate there is some kind of medical issue going on.  Given her age I would say there is, and that you need to take her in to your good regular rabbit vet

I would make a general guess (not a vet) that it is tied to something going on in her kidneys (infection, urinary tract infection, or starting to fail), or if she has never been spayed, a potential uterine infection (pyometra).

All of the things I can imagine require going to the vet.  She is older, she needs to be getting an exam every six months to catch problems more quickly than just an annual exam.

If you need to find a good rabbit vet go here:

www.rabbit.org/vets/vets.html

to find a House Rabbit Society recommended vet near you.  Not all vets are good rabbit vets, for the fastest, best diagnoses and treatment (and the most effective bang for your buck) go to a good rabbit vet.

I'll pray for your gal.
