Piglets Pee

Question
Hello,

You recently posted a question to Patricia Morrisroe in category Pot Bellied Pigs:

Hi!
I'm new to PBP, so naturally I went and read all the information I could read about them. My piglet is maybe 9 weeks old, she is doing rather fine(eating, playing, etc.) only that she got some mange from her mother and it got worse with the stress of bringing her to her new home. We gave her Ivomec(.10), which we use for our rabbits(mouth dose) and dogs briefly for mange prevention, parasites and fleas. Peny(the piglet) peeled as she scratched against her pen, but is now looking better. The odd thing is that I've seen some kind of whitish material when she is finishing peeing. Something like bird poo-pee, lets say. Is there anything wrong with her? She is eating small amounts of pig chow, oats and chopped veggies like zuquinni, lettuce and spinach from our garden. She also loves laying in the sun-which I don't let her-because I know she'll get sunburnt. We live in the Caribbean and it rains constantly but her pen is nice and dry with good shade. About the pee, should I be worried? Thanks!
P.S.
Could it be a UTI, in that case do amoxilin work?

Answer
I am not a veterinarian and can not make a medical diagnosis over the internet. I can say that a whitish discharge, like the one you are describing, is not normal.

This kind of discharge is usually associated with infection, either in the urinary or reproductive tracts. Because your girl is still a baby and too young to have started heats, it's probably urinary related.

I can not prescribe medication over the internet. I can say that amoxicillin is used to treat urinary tract infections, and is safe for pigs to take.
