Question
Hi:  You answered a question for me a few weeks back about introducing a baby pig to a one year old spayed female, both in the house as pets.  We have slowly introduced them, but Jemima (the older one) does seem to be jealous of Moo (the baby) and has charged her, chased her, nipped at her, etc.  Now, Jemima is charging and nipping my Boston Terrier who she normally gets along with--particularly in the kitchen where the treats are.  I have sprayed Jem with water and sent her on a time out to her crate, but she is still being ornery.  I don't want the Boston to get injured.  Any suggestions?  Jemima does have access to a fenced yard where she comes in and out during the day so she is not penned up inside all the time, and we don't want to make her living quarters outside.  Also, should I just be letting Moo loose with Jemima and not interfere at all?  Moo really screamed on their first introduction, but still seems to want to be friends. Thanks for your help.

Answer
Pigs see the world as a ladder with every one on their own "rung". When Moo moved in, the ladder changed. Jemima is picking on the dog because she is insecure about her own place on the ladder.

Yes, do leave both pigs together. Sometimes it can be hard to not interfere, but interfering just prolongs the fighting. Because Moo is just a baby, the introduction won't be too long or hard, although it may be noisy!

Once Jemima and Moo have settled in together and Jemima feels comfortable about her place, she should stop bothering the dog.
