A pregnant pot belly

Question

Eunice the Great
Hello,
I have a pot belly pig named Eunice, She is heavily pregnant and I was wondering how far along she might be. She is cranky, and does not tolerate any of the other pets for about a week, her poor tummy looks ready to pop, it drags the ground and her babies seem to have slowed down their movement a little. How early in pregnancy can you feel a piglet move? Her progress seems to have stopped, she looks the same today as she did last week, and she whines when I touch her tummy. I guess I'm just anxious, any how I will send along a picture I've never seen a pregnant potbelly before.
Any info would be very helpful
Thanks
Lisa

Answer
Normal gestation is three months, three weeks and three days.

Usually, a day or two before giving birth, the teats will begin to swell, and Momma pig begins nest building.

The babies can come quickly, or they could be as long as almost an hour apart.

The Veterinary Care of Pot-Bellied Pigs by Lorrie Boldrick-Blackburn has a couple of chapters about pregnancy, birth, and the new babies. Used copies are often available on Amazon.com

Although most times nothing goes wrong, it's a good idea to know which veterinarian to call if something does go wrong. It can be difficult to find vets who see pot-bellied pigs. Waiting until an emergency to find a vet can cost precious minutes. There's a list of vets that see pot-bellied pigs here farec.org
