Daisy
I purchased a teacup from a breeder 3 days ago (Monday).  The pig, I was told, weighed approximately 12-14 oz.  I was given detailed feeding instructions (every 6 hours using the powdered Similac Advantage with iron human baby formula provided, following directions on the can).  After getting our baby Daisy home (a 10 minute drive) I forgot how much I was told to feed her at each "feeding".  I allowed Daisy to eat until she was full.  She is a super good eater (nearly 2 oz-I am bottle feeding, btw).  She started getting diarrhea on Tuesday, so I called my vet and called the breeder for advise.  I was told by both sources that I was overfeeding Daisy.  The breeder told me to only feed her 1 oz 4 times a day even though she'll want more-1 oz is enough.  The breeder added instructions for putting rice cereal in her bottle-as thick as would still go through the nipple.  I did that.  The diarrhea stopped by Tuesday evening so I tapered back the cereal to just the powdered baby formula.  I also offer Daisy a bottle of water-as provided from the breeder-for her to wash down her formula, or whenever she gets fussy-as instructed by the breeder.  Unfortunately, Daisy has not had a bowel movement of any kind since the diarrhea on Tuesday.  I started allowing her to eat up to 1.5 oz of formula, still offering water as much as possible.  I know changing a baby's diet before she's stabilized is a bad idea, but I don't know what to do.  I have the following items regularly in my household-canned & powdered goat milk, yogurt made from goat's milk, cottage cheese, canned pumpkin, olive oil, cod liver oil, and now have a 25 lb bag of Mazuri's youth pig food.  I have tried to stimulate Daisy's rectum by rubbing the area, then sanitizing my hands before touching her.  I would like to help her myself, if possible, before having to resort to taking her to the vet, which is 15 miles away.  Can and will you help me figure out what to do for my baby?  Thank you in advance.

Answer
Hello,
You need to take her back to the breeder and put her backk with her mother so she can nurse properly.
The breeder should never let a piglet go to it new home until it has been properly weaned!!!.
She is too young and needs her mom to become a healthy, well mannered adult pig.
You should not take her home with you until she is eating starter pellets well and not wanting to nurse.  She should be nursing until she is 5 to 6 weeks of age.  Then the breeder should make sure she is eating her starter chow for at least two weeks before she goes home with you.
If the breeder does not take her back please send me the name, address and phone number so I can contact them!
