Question
Hi, i just got a pig sunday and we have tried syringes, baby bottle, hand feeding and bowls and she wont touch milk (tried 2%, whole, and goat but she WILL NOT touch it! She has been drinking water steadily and we have put a couple of drops of the milk in the water and she still drinks it but it is not nearly enough. If you have any suggestions please let me know!

Answer
Many baby piglets are anxious and nervous for the first few days in a new home. They may not want to eat and may be constipated from not eating.

Because piggy is able to drink water, piggy is able to drink milk.

Give piggy a safe space where she can be alone and peaceful. It doesn't have to be large, a closet, laundry room or small bathroom are fine. Put her bed in there, a litter box, and the food dish with goat milk, replacement sow formula, and a few pellets. Leave piggy alone in the safe space with the food for several hours. After piggy has a chance to calm down she should be calm enough to eat.

I highly recommend the book Pot-Bellied Pig Behavior and Training by Priscilla Valentine. The dvds A Pig in the House and Amazing Pig Tricks from Top Hogs www.tophogs.com are also excellent.
