Question

little Clover
My potbelly pig is 10 weeks old and weighs 10 pounds and stands 6 inches high.  How many ml of the farrowfure vaccine should my vet be giving a pig of this size.  He has a 5ml syringe but it looks like alot to me.  I am worried about my little potbelly having a reaction to lepto as I have heard that lepto reactions are very common, but what are the symptoms of the reaction.  Everywhere it states, lepto reaction common be careful, but could you please tell me what you would recommend as the vaccine dose and what type of negative reaction my pig may experience.  I am just a worried new mom.  She goes in to be spayed at 12 weeks so I will probably be a basket-case that day if I am worried over a little needle now.  I just want the very best for my new little girl "Clover".  Thank you for your time.

Answer
Usually swine vaccinations are not given by weight.
In other words, a 10# pig gets the same as a 30# pig.
(I cannot suggest a dose or I would be practicing medicine without a license)!
It is on the label of the medicine.
We would suggest following that.
These meds are safe, not to worry.
We have never had a reaction to lepto.
Keep baby aspirin and Benadryl on hand.
You just have new mommy jitters!
What a darling piglet!
Good luck,
