potbelly big losing weight and color

Question
I acquired a potbelly pig that wandered it to a friends yard and they didn't want it so I took it. She is fairly large for a potbelly I don't know how old she is and she may be one month pregnant. Within one week she lost a lot of weight and is turning white, when she is normaly black. Do pregnant potbellys do this or is something wrong?

Answer
It's not unusual for a black pot-bellied pig to develop white spots or socks, or turn almost completely white. Virtually all pot-bellied pigs in the US are a mix of various strains of small Asian pigs. They can be solid black, black with white spots, white with black spots, silver or red.

The worrisome thing here is that she has lost a lot of weight in just one week. Rapid weight loss in any pig is usually a symptom of something serious, and in a pregnant pig it's a danger sign.

Your pig probably needs to see a vet due to the sudden and rapid weight loss, but the color change is normal. There's a list of vets that see pot-bellied pigs here www.farec.org
