QuestionHi, I was wondering if it is normal when a PBP has strong smelling perfume type breath? also how do you know when the hooves need clipping?
AnswerA pigs breath normally smells like the food they've just eaten, or smells like the gases in their stomach as that food is digested. Eating fruit or strong, sweet plants or flower blossoms can give pigs a sweet-smelling breath.
Hooves should be fairly short. Problems start when the hoof grows long and interferes with the normal posture for feet and legs. There's photos here http://www.9sites.com/pigcare.htm#hoof of both problem feet and nicely trimmed feet, plus information on hoof and tusk trimming. The whole site is filled with great photos of pigs, but I think you'll have to go directly to www.9sites.com to see the rest of the site.
