QuestionI just adopted a pot belly pig, 6 weeks ago. She will be two in July and looks to be about 6olbs. I've read that they can continue to grow till age 3-5yrs. I'm just curious how much bigger she is likely to get? Does the growth rate slow at a certain point?
AnswerThe best predictor of a pot-bellied pig's final size is the size of the pig's parents at age 5 or 6. Pigs grow fairly quickly until they are about age 2, when they reach adulthood and near full size. They will continue to grow, but much slower, until they are about 5 years old. Pigs that spend the first few years of their lives underfed will have a growth spurt as soon as they begin to get proper nutrition, even if they are as old as 5.
If your pig really is age two in July and has been properly fed, then she's about 80% - 90% full grown.
