sparkys runny eyes look the theyre running blood

Question
Just this morning i noticed that sparkys eyes are unusually runny in one eye and in that eye it looks like its been bleeding. i tried researching what it could be but a lot of the information i found was for older pigs and sparky is only a couple months old. about 2 days ago i also saw little red dots behind his ears so ive been rubbing baby oil on his ears so that it will kill the mites if theyre there. So what should i do about Sparkys bleeding eye?

Answer
I am not a veterinarian, and can not make a medical diagnosis over the internet.

If it really is blood coming from Sparky's eye, he will need to see a veterinarian. There may be something like a foxtail stuck behind the eyelid. Once a foxtail is lodged under the lid it slowly works it's way back behind the eye. It can cause infection and blindness. There is a list of veterinarians who see pot-bellied pigs at www.farec.org

It's possible that what you're seeing is just normal eye gunk from daily irritation. Clean his eye with a soft damp cloth. Wipe away all the gunk, and look for signs of swelling.

Mite dots tend to be orange rather that red. Dots that are more red than orange, or that bleed, are more likely insect bites or a rash caused by contact with a skin irritant.

If the problem is mites, baby oil won't help. Sparky will need two doses of mange medicine, two weeks apart. The first dose kills any living mites, the second dose kills mites that have hatched since the first dose. Your vet can prescribe the proper medicine and dosage.
