Female pot-bellied pigs usually have their first heat at about 6 months. Size plays an important role, because spaying is a much more invasive procedure than neutering. Male pot-bellied pigs can, and should, be neutered before three months of age.

Most vets prefer to wait until a female is about five months old, or at least 20 lb. Some vets are able to spay younger or smaller pigs. Others prefer to wait until the female has had at least one heat cycle. It's a good idea to avoid doing the procedure during heat, because that can cause excessive bleeding.
