Question
I just went to feed my two potbelly pigs in which I have had for a yr. Actually at one point I wanted babys but really have decided she is not able to get pregnant. She was ready to eat and ran to the food with her bubby but I noticed she was bleeding a little and then noticed some blood and discharge on a blanket nearby, I separated them but not wonder if maybe she had some and they were eatened or is she in heat? Ive never seen her come in hear before and these are my first pigs.

Answer
Pot-bellied pig males are fertile at 8 weeks. Females are fertile at 6 months. Females will occasionally have a discharge when they are in heat. Pigs do not eat their piglets (except under extreme or bizarre circumstances).
I highly recommend Pot-Bellied Pig Veterinary Care by Lorrie Boldrick, it has lots of information about pig, piglets, and their care. Also, Priscilla Valentine's Pot-Bellied Pig Care and Training book is an excellent reference and helps the reader understand the pig's point of view.
