I need help with my chinchilla

Question
I know that I should take him to the vet but I am very short on cash so I just wanted to know if you or anyone knew what was wrong with my chinchilla. He is fine most of the time but every once in awhile he will squeel and start jumping around and banging himself against the cage I hear it and go in and check on him and once he stops I pick him up and "comfort" him....he has done this maybe 4 times in the past 4 months sometimes he will even lay on his side and shake.....if u have any clue what it is let me know and I will take him to the vet as soon as I can...also do you know anywhere in Ohio that takes chinchilla's?

Answer
Hello Felisha,
how big is your cage? If it's too small for your chinchilla they will sometimes start banging against the cage and chew on it. Since he has only done this 4 times in the past 4 months have you noticed anything that has happaned before each incident that would cause that. Sometimes a chinchilla will want to be with an owner and bang against the cage to be let out. How hot is it in the room as well? I would certainly call a small animals vet and ask their opinion on the situation since this isn't really frequent, it could be just a behavior that he is doing.
I only know of one small animals vet clinic and that's Ohio State University Vet Clinic. I would google small animals vet in ohio and see what comes up. Good luck and keep me posted.
