Question
How do I go about breeding my guinea pigs?  I put them in a cage together and the girl is raring to go but the male won't pursue her. They talk allot though.  Help me!

Answer
Hello Lindsay.

Well, i would like to first let you know the dangers of breeding first. Are you prepared to take care of possibly 5 babies?  Are you prepared to have 5 different cages if they don't get along? You have to seperate the boys from the girls at 3 weeks of age (even if you intend on breeding more) because you can't go getting a 3 week old pig pregnant (WAY too dangerous for her life). You would need to then seperate the mom from the dad so the mom doesn't get pregnant back to back (Which is WAY too dangerous as well).  Are you prepared to possibly have 7 cages if needed?  Alot of people don't understand the full story to breeding. It's not as easy as people think.
There is an article that goes into a little more detail i think you should read before pursuing this.

It's on this website.

Please read it to understand better.

Now to answer your question, most likely they will eventually get to business. It would be a RARE instance where the male would not mate with the female. Some need more time, but it will eventually happen. It may have already. It only takes about 3 seconds, and that could have happened while you weren't looking. Are you absolutely sure that they are male and female. Sometimes pet stores lie. Alot of times pet stores lie (or are just inexperienced in their knowledge. For pictures of identifying the sexes, go to this website.
