Answer
Hello Donna, thanks for the question.

First off, I am sorry about your loss. Dealing with the death of a pet is one of the hardest things that I, personally, have had to do.

If the ONLY symptoms were weight loss and undergrown teeth, then I would say your little buddy had "malocclusion". Malocclusion is when a GP's teeth grow out of control and in unnatural ways. Even though you caught this problem and had his teeth cut down doesn't mean that his mouth was not still damaged. A vet can treat this and provide antibotics for any infection that may have been hidden (the mouth of a mammal is a breeding ground for bacteria and other tasty things).

In the future, when clipping a GP's toenails and cleaning his ears, checkout his teeth. Only a vet can properly take care of this condition.

Thanks and have a good day,
Ryan
