Question
My guinnea is about 10 month's old he was over-all very hyper. For last 3-4 days I have noticed him calm down to the point to where he is just sitting in one spot and he is not eating very much (which Normally he eats very well) he is losing weight and he won't drink his water which has vitamin C drops in it. From examinig him he has one sore by his mouth.  What I have begun to do is try to make sure he gets some vitamin C by trying to feed him by mouth one dropperfuls per day. About every 3 hours give him some water with some vitamin C in it.  because I know it is very important that he gets water and vitamin c drops. Could you please tell me is this scurvy and what I might need to do?  I reall don't know what is the normal dosage and treatment for scurvy.  But your help will be greatly appreciated

Answer
Hi Deidre

It is much more likely that the sore has been caused by a piece of hay being caught in his mouth. I had a pig this happened to also.

You really need to consult a vet, but you will also need to syringe feed your pig his food so he doesnt keep losing weight. Try purre some vegetables with vitamin c in then you dont need to worry about the drops.
