guinea pigs make an amazing variety of sounds, from a low "prr" almost like a cat, to a very high pitched squeaking sound, known as wheeking.
Guinea pigs can make noises for all kinds of reasons. Mine wheek when food is approaching, especially if they can hear me chopping vegetables for them. They also brr when being stroked but make a similar noise when they are falling out with one another. If one piggy wants to go inside the "igloo" they have then the others will wheek at him, although this isn't often as high pitched as the food wheek.
Guinea pigs are well-known for making all sorts of noises, especially when excited or frightened.
