Question
Hi, a few weeks ago I got a couple of guinea pigs, one of them has a bit of a nasty scabby ear...its very dry and sore looking. i took her to the vet and he gave me some cream but it doesn't seem to be getting any better. do you know what it might be? i intend to take her back to the vet but in the mean time any information would be helpful. thanks

Answer
Hi Paigan.  Medication can take a while to work so it may just need a bit more time to take effect on the ear.  Was the cream anything in particular?  The dryness could be due to a fungal infection such as ringworm, and treatment isn't quick, so your vet may have already diagnosed this.
Give it a little while longer, and if it's still bothering your pig, get your vet to take another look.
Some pigs can just suffer from dryness and it may just be that your pig needs a good moisturising cream like baby nappy rash cream (like sudocrem) applying to the sore regions.
See how it goes.  I hope this helps some what!
