Tumor?

Question
My pig is 6 years old and always appeared to be very healthy with an extremely good appetite.  Last week I gave him a bath and noticed a huge what appears to be a growth on the left side of his belly.  Since yesterday, he does not like to move.  I probably know the answer, but do you think there is anything a vet could do other than putting him to sleep.  I am sure he is not moving around because the growth drags when he walks.  When I hand feed him, he is very happy to take food.  Any recommendations.  Be honest, I can take it.

Answer
Hello Mary,

Take him to the vet. It could be an abscess that needs to be lanced and drained and he could be given antibiotics and get well. Even if it is a tumor, it could be benign and he may be fine if it is simply removed. You are right, it could be cancerous, but there is a good chance it isn't and it would certainly be worth taking him as soon as you can to find out. If it is an abscess, the sooner it's treated the greater the chance for survival, so you should probably call for the appointment. Sometimes, even if it is cancer, depending on where it's located and what it's attached to, he may be able to still have it removed and live happily at least a little longer. Him being normally healthy and still eating willingly should improve his chance for recovery. I'll keep him in my prayers. I hope it will be good news and he'll be ok. Good luck.
