think my guinnea pig is dying!

Question
We have had my pig about seven and half years if not a little more.  Today I brought him his favorite treat and found him on his side and his body temp was cold.  I've noticed his hasn't been talking near as much.  He hasn't been eating as much as use to but still active.  He stays in a rabbit cage plastic very large we wanted him to always have room.  His cage gets cleaned every 3-4 days with chlorophyll litter.  Never shown these signs before wandering if it is his time.  Right now I've been holding him and we've got him on a heating pad when we are not.  Please let me know if I am right?

Answer
Hello Kelly,

Taking him to the vet may help but it's very likely there will be little they can do. A 7 1/2 year old piggy is very old and it is likely just his time. There aren't enough symptoms for me to suggest any certain illness, but that doesn't mean there isn't one and it is possible he could be treated and saved but it's very likely just old age. If he were mine, he'd go to the vet to see if there was anything that could be done, but if you'd rather not go to the vet, just keep him warm and happy and enjoy your remaining time with him. You've done very well with him for him to have lived such a long life. I'm so sorry I couldn't give you more positive news.
