Question
How soon can I introduce the (neutered) father back into the cage with the mom and newborns?  Litter of 4 came yesterday.  Everyone's fine in the big cage, but the Father is have fits wanting to be back home!

I would appreciate help.  Thanks -

Answer
Patti,

You can introduce dad back into the cage now. He won't hurt the young at all, and will be able to help in teaching them how to eat and drink. Which will make it easier on mom.

If you have any males in your litter make sure to separate them at three weeks old. Put them in a different cage with dad, so they can continue to learn their behavior needs from him. They will need to spend time with an adult at least till they are 6 weeks old, though they are weaned at 3 weeks old they haven't learned all the social, and behavioral needs at that age and need another 3 weeks with an adult to get them all down.

If all four are girls then you don't have to separate anyone and can just leave them be. :)

Congratulations on the new litter and I am glad to hear everyone is fine and doing well.

Take care now,
