Question
Hi WE have  had our Guinea Pig "ruby" for 2 months. I have heard that you should avoid pine and cedar like the plague! We have a wooden cage for her & in the short time she has chewed this so so much in the sleeping area around the edges everywhere!! We have wood chews in her cage but she wont go near them. Her cage cost us so much money & now it is a mess. Why does she do this, is it dangerous for her & how can I stop her from doing this

Answer
Hi Lillie

Chewing the cage is not at all dangerous but I understand your annoyance. Piggies seem to have a habit of chewing things they shouldnt even when you supply wood chews for them.

She should stop chewing it when she has made a certain amount of damage, i.e she wont chew the whole cage until it is all gone.

The only way I cant think of stopping her chewing the cage is to put some sort of cladding on the area where she chews.
