QuestionMy 5 month piggy has developed a skin problem. He scratches - makes scabs -
and most of his skin appears to be very red - like a sunburn. He is a white,
smooth haired pig. He squeels when I try to examine him. I did take him to a
vet, who did a slide from the the scraping of a scab. This ruled out mites.
Please HELP ! I changed his bedding from pine to aspen. Changed his food
from gourmet (nuts, dried fruit, etc.), to plain piggy grain.
AnswerHi Nancy
If mites has been ruled out then the problem must be fungal. The normal treatment for this is griseofulvin (sp) but this has to be got from the vet too.
You have done the right thing in changing the bedding and food as pine and nuts wouldnt help.
