what other than shavings can you use?

Can someone use ripped up news paper into the size of normal wood shavings br used instead of using wood shavings? Which is better to use and more comfertable for them to use?

thank you for your question.
Newspaper is not so good for hamsters because they cannot build tunnels in it, apart from that it will get smelly very fast.
If you can get some, I recommend flax or hemp bedding (not the pellets) mixed with hay. It absorps smells extremely well and it's not as dusty as wood shavings. It's often used for horses because of that.
