Where to find a hamster

 I was just emailing you because i was wondering if a hamster gets out of its cage where could you find it.  Also, if your hamsters been lost for more than 3 days is there a possibility its still alive somewhere in the house?

Hi Tina,

The hamster could be anywhere in the house.  First, close every door in your house.  If you have any indoor pets such as a cat or dog, see if they can go outside, or if a neighbor can watch them.  If there are any wires close to or on the floor, place them higher.  Then, place some food and a small piece of apple in each room.  Keep checking to see if the food has been eaten.  Wherever it has, you'll know which room your hamster is in, and you can intensify your search.

There is also another method you may want to try.  It's called the "bucket method."  Gather a bucket, a towel, some books, and a piece of apple (which has a strong smell, so the hamster can find it more easily).  First, line the bucket with the towel and place the apple in the bucket.  Then, with the books, make a "staircase" leading up to the bucket.  Hopefully, your hamster will end up safely in the bucket.
