Gerbil food and bedding

Can you give gerbils hay to make the wood shavings more stable when tunneling? becuase the pet shop said mongolian gerbils shouldn't have hay - i dont know why. Many sites say they need hay to support the tunels and like to eat it too. Also can i give them raisons, if so how often?

You can give them hay,i always do!! They arent as sensitive to the dust as other animals so it is fine, and they do like to eat it.

Yes you can give them raisins, i would only give them two to three times a week so that they don't get the runs!!
