Question
just under a week ago i bought a female chinese hamster. the first time i got her out she jumped out of my hands, me and my sister managed to get her back in my hands but she jumped again, she runs as soon as she gets away. she is always treated very gently. whenever me or a member of my family try to stroke her while she is in her sleeping house she squashes herself against the wall as if she cannot stand to be touched. i have tried just putting my finger in there and letting her get used to the scent but it doesn't seem to make a difference. will she ever become tame?? i feel like she hates me!!

also, a couple of my friends said that if a hamster bites and draws blood it will become obsessed with the taste, and will keep biting to taste more. is this true? it sounds a bit extreme to me!
thanks for your time

Answer
Hello Katie,
lets just ease your mind by saying the hamster biting blood and craving for it is not true. Trust me I should know, as many hamsters that have drawn blood from me and have been tamed they don't crave it. Plus my hamster has drawn blood from me only once in his life and that was by accident.
Your hamster is just really afraid and I wouldn't try and touch her while she's in her little hut since that is her private space. You've got to talk to her and let her get to know you. It takes time. :)
