hamster has a swollen belly

Question
I have a 1 1/2 year old black bear hamster. Lately I've noticed that
her belly is swollen and hard. She looks pregnant, but there is no
way that she is. I read that a strawberry may help if she's
constipated, should I try that? I'm worried that it may be more
serious. However, she still has energy. Also her urine has a
stronger odor than usual, I wonder if this has anything to do with
her belly? Thanks!

Answer
Try feeding her a strawberry to see if she is constipated. Since you have noticed her urine is stronger I would take her to a vet. If you give her a strawberry and her tummy doesn't go down within 24 hours she could have a tumor growing or she could have something wrong with her digestive system. I can't tell you exactly what is wrong with her. A doctor would have to do x-rays to see what is wrong. You have a good eye and nose to notice the urine odor as that can sometimes indicate sickness if their cage smells more than usual and you clean it normally. I hope I have helped you out. Good luck with everything.
